Nature Notes... Cultivating a Calm, Caring, Creative Community

Originally introduced to nature ‘journaling’ at an event workshop at Backus Heritage Conservation Area in 2013, I have since experimented with this creative form of relaxation on my own and am really excited to share this wonderful concept (along with many of my own takes and tweaks on the subject) with others.

‘Nature Notes Workshops’ are a truly practical way to engage ourselves with the outdoors and all the splendours it has to offer. We afford ourselves the intimate opportunity to see the earth and all her flora and fauna in refreshing new ways, ultimately challenging the false idea that we are in any way separate from any of it.

Along with the obvious physical benefits of relaxing in nature such as increased intake of oxygen through time spent amongst the trees, improved circulation, decreased heart rate and release of muscular tension through stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, we can find the psychological, emotional and spiritual benefits can easily out-weigh even all of these. Calm mental alertness and clarity of mind through an increase of relaxed brain wave activity, a sense of peace and contentment as we allow ourselves to be embraced by the landscape and all its grandeur, and a sense of inspiration and uplifted-ness, a lightness of spirit through the accumulation of all of that.

All ‘Nature Notes Workshops’ commence with an introduction to the Nature Notes Art Form relative to the current session, followed by guided instruction in ‘Stirring the Senses’ to prepare us for our hike and creative observations. After approximately an hour of personal time to apply the day’s Nature Notes Technique, workshops close with a delicious, nature-approved snack and space to share our findings and creations.

So, what are we really talking about here? Check out the slide show below…
